..::The Guillotine::.. by NightmareGK13 ..::The Guillotine::.. by NightmareGK13
yay finally a landscape

a giant guillotine for man beast and alike

i know i know perspective issues
if i can correct i will in the meantime this is it

oh and those are statues not man that were turned into stone
just plain old sculpted statues of marble

"as night fell, the shackles were heard on the surrounding forest, though there was no living creature nearby"

~cheers

I like this, it has a lot of atmosphere. The colors really help establish this sort of oppressive, ominous mood.

I remember now... hehe
Yes this was indeed a image that caught my eye from the very day u posted it in the teeny group ;)
Its just breath-taking and the idea that it creates is practically infinite, especially since u pointed out that the men are statues..
I cant exacly grasp the idea behind it,but thats all part of the magic, isnt it?

And the excecution is brilliant ! the way u mixed up the sky purple and blue into that trubled mess is, in my opinion magicall !

ookay, sry for late reply but anyways..

Well the fact that stone statues are pulling down the guillotine,is obviously a reference to what goes on in our world coorect? or not? im a bit confused on that one,

Im pretty sure i meant to say more things to this, but over time i forgot what i wanted to say :(

ah no worries

i will be glad to explain

the whole concept of the guillotine is a part of the romance im writting
fantasy kinda thing, Eragon, LOTR and so on

so
this dude swore to avenge his fathers death, he was a farmer and so was his son. His son went and lived a rich full life away from the ones he held dear, mother and father. One day upon returning home, he found that the secluded residence of his father had been pillaged by mercenaries and bandits and all sorts of wrong people, his father was killed and his mother raped at a very late age, before dying alongside her husband she left him a note.
The promise he made to his father was that one day he would build a huge fortress and prison where he'd "enprision?" and enslave all evil people and criminals, the statues represent the very prisoners of that place, lifting the structure that would one day be the end of them.
It was the prisoners who built the walls and who built the guillotine, Jurrah, as the man was called was a fanatic for it, and so he ordered it to be built at a massive height and to be able to behead all sorts of creatures, from dragons to the pettiest of humans, it was a sadistic structure.
Everything was abandoned due to lack of funding once Jurrah died, prisoners took over, some died, other remained and other fled.
And 17 years before the timeline of the actual book a mystical discharge happened throughout the continent, and turned the dead of that place into living, and the living to dead, the once green plains were turned into swamps where the rrattling of the chains of the prisoners is still heard within the depths of the mist.

when i paint something i don't usually have anything behind it, what you see is what you get, it's there portrayed plain and simple. I don't like giving meaning to things, although some paintings have it, some don't this one is just an illustration such as many other in my gallery

but this one [link] has a more deep meaning, it's a reinterpretation of the David's from the rennaissance, but in this case with a different reading, the will of the small to confront the great and the beast
i think it's one of the few paintings i made that has a meaning beyond the illustrative side

hope i managed to enlighten you :P
i hate all that meaning behind everything, im not a thinker, well i am but that side of me is not portrayed in paintings and illustrations that i do, they oftenly do not have a seond interpretation or an intricate meaning behind all of it :XD:

interesting story,thx for explaining,now i see :)

and as for ideas behind drawings,i think that is exacly the factor that defines a painting into art.
If the painting has no underlying message or story,it cannot be really classified as art, thats why ure piece drew my attention ;)

I myself am only starting to grasp drawing in a more "experienced" level, but i still find most entertaining to see and do drawings that have an idea behind, and not the ones that just look cool.

Good luck with ure story!
Im thinking of writing up a LOTR parody [link] but i seriously dont know where to start from,i have figured out the main characters and all,but the story is quite non-existant.
How can someone parodize the greatest work of fiction ever?>

don't really agree with what you said there
looking at still life paintings from the baroque you can see that they oftenly don't have an intricate meaning behind it, yet, they are still art right? :?

indeed
it's a hard job
good luck on that, maybe greab some inspiration from monthy python and all the movies that made parodies of the great masterpieces :P

its just a theory ive been "philosophizing" on, so its okay to disagree with.

and i dont call it art,no.Its merely a reproduction of what one sees.
up till recently most of my "art" was exacly that,a reproduction of things i see around me(comics, landscapes)into drawings. But i wouldnt call them pieces of Art.

You see Art has overlapped with the meaning of craft so much, that people have come to confuse which is which, and this *i believe* is making its appearance in what we Artists call our creations.

Thats why i have decided *stupidly,on my own* to call Art only pieces of which an idea lies behind.
calling a pot of fruit art is meaningless,no matter how weird it looks,or how much effort the artist put into the making. Its like the digital paintings u can see around here that are so life realistic they look like a photo, but why should we call it Art? because the artist put a lot of hard work in it?
A baker puts alot of hard work into a loaf of bread or a cake, but no matter how nice it looks at the end (or smells or tastes) we dont call it art.

Do u see my trail of thought?
also i offten disagree in calling ourselves Artist's,because most of the digital artists around dont paint for the sake of art,but for the sake of money, thats why in reality they are people of craft aka craftmen.

Ive read Bored of the Rings, and thats about all the LOTR parodies ive ever heard of :D

ah now thats why im thinking on going on more of a practical course than rather the whole fine arts spirit
before i would have ftted in because they only wanted the academic part
which i value more than anything else
now its all about expressions and concepts and visions and all about philosophy :P

hate all that :XD:
if i am not an artist because i don't have oftenly a meaning behind what i do
then i rather not be one and just draw fr the sake of draw
thats what i like more than anything
screw the meaningfull things
i like drawing, drawing from life, drawing fantasy and so on

it's not stupidly
people are diferent
and have different ways of appreciating art
while you may adore Kandinsky or Munch or Mondrien, Duchamps, so on
i find them full of crap and very little art
because like you said
i refuse those things
being open minded or not
i rather appreciate the masters
such as Caravaggio, Leonardo, Donatello etc etc, Jan Weenix, Rembrandt etc
they all have meaning behind what they do, yet they can still be academic
that is what i love more than the rest

i see it completely :P
oh but you are wrng there
do you think most of the portraits leonardo painted were fr the sake of art?
no it was for money
I completely refuse the Art you call Art, and that may people call Art :XD:
maybe im just stubborn or maybe i'm just being me
what i do nevertheless is not for Art, and it's not for money
what i do i do to become better at what i do and to reach my own goals
surely i do commissions we all need money :XD:

LOOOL
bored of the rings
god i have to take a look into that :lmao:

I can swear I was thinking of a similar
design after watching The Death Machine
